The Big Game

“There is one more day before the biggest football game in the Premier League guys, get ready for it”, said Sir Alex Ferguson in the changing room. Every player in Manchester United wanted to repay the humiliation of the 6-1 loss to Man City, to the fans. Therefore, the players trained profusely, twice as much as they did before.

That night Sir Alex Ferguson had to think conscientiously about the team he will put on tomorrow because in the winter transfer season, Manchester United bought Sneijer from Inter Milan for 40 million. Also, Pogba was doing very well these days. This was extra thinking for the manager, and then suddenly, he had a great inkling about the team. Tomorrow he was going to have a classic 4-4-2 formation with De Gea in goal, Rio Ferdinand, Vidic, Evera, Smalling in defense, Pogba, Sneijer, Park Ji Sung, Nani in midfield and Rooney and Chicharito as the two strikers.

The day came really fast and it was near kick off. The players were warming up and all the fans were coming in, 77,800 seats all filled up with fans. There were some concerns about the Man City fans having fights with the Man U fans. Right before the match began, the commentators were discussing about how Sir Alex Ferguson’s plan of putting Pogba on was audacious and Mancini’s plan was very prudent. Also they were talking about Man City’s Balotelli pilfering donuts from Tesco.

The match embarked with Manchester United having all the possession, but as the game went on, Man City were dominating the game. In the 23 minute, Man City’s Balotelli missed an open goal. It was slovenly done by the Italian youngster. This rankled the Man City players because it was a very big miss. Right after the miss, Pogba and Sneijer gave a great one-two and gave a through ball to Chicharito; however he was pressured by Kompany from the behind. It was a great play by Man U. The first half ended with each side being neck and neck.

The second half began, there were no changes for both teams. Both teams played some of the best football people have ever seen for a long time. It was near the end and there was still no goal…. “It is a counter attack from Manchester United: Vidic, Pogba to Sneijer, Park Ji Sung is making a run to the center, Sneijer swerves the ball in…..GOAL!!!!!!!! Park Ji Sung, the former South Korean captain scores a diving header from just outside the six yard box. What a goal from a world class player!” the commentators said. “Everybody took part in making the goal; great passes from Pogba and Sneijer and great defending by all the defenders, also amazing runs by Park, Rooney, Chicharito, and Nani. Brilliant play from a brilliant team.” The commentators added. Now the Man City fans looked quite lackadaisical about the game and many left before the game finished.

Finally the referee blew the whistle and the match was over. The man of the match was rewarded to Park Ji Sung who scored the winner. After the match the commentators said that Man U looked serene by Man City and they also rebuked Balotelli for such a bad miss.

Confession Tuesday, I Want a different Manager!

These days Manchester United haven’t been playing beautiful football as they did a year ago. Recently, they have been eliminated in the UEFA Champions League which is a tournament where many teams from all over the World take part in it. At the start of Manchester Untied was in the favorite list to win the Cup; however, they were knocked out by a Swedish team called Basel. When I saw this match, I was shocked because it was really rare for a team as good as Man U to not go through to the quarter finals. This event also happened five years ago when they lost two matches and drew one; that was the worst Man u ever did.

This season (2011-2012), Man U bought some class players like De Gea, Ashley Young, and Phil Jones. These players played very well at the start of the season but as the season went on Ashley Young started to play absolute rubbish football. Although he played like that, the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson kept putting him on. There were other great wingers like Valencia, Park Ji Sung who were more experienced and better than him.

This was getting out of hand when Man U lost 6-1 to it’s next door neighbor and a rival, Man City. The past 2 years Man City have bought at least 10 players because Man City’s owner was the richest owner in the Premier League. This year they bought an expensive player named Aguero. He is the Argentinean international striker and to play for a team that includes Messi, Tevez, Higuain, and other great player one has to have to be a genius at football, in my opinion he is one of the best strikers in the Premier League. The match was a disaster. Man U conceded three goals in five minutes. It was a nightmare for the fans and the players. After the matcher, the commentators and the newspapers were saying that if Park Ji Sung came out, the result would have been different.

What I really want to confess is that Man U should move on to another manager who is young. Not a manager who is seventy one. I respect Sir Alex Ferguson immensely but I think it is time for him to retire. Also, I believe that Man u should buy a creative midfielder and stop putting bad players like Ashley Young.

A Chaotic Day, Memoir Monday

My story is about when my mum’s car got locked and all our car keys and mobile phones and other imminent items were locked inside it.
Yesterday, after church finished, our family went to buy supplies for my lunch. When we arrived at the store me, mum, and my brother went into the bakery and bought bread and snacks, next we went to a Chinese shop and bought some Korean foods such as dukbokki, tofu. When my dad came in and said that the car door was locked. It was quite funny at first because our car keys, mobile phones were all inside it. It was really ironic that all our belongings where inside the car. My mum quickly bought the foods she picked up, ignoring the foods me and my brother picked. It got really serious when my mum said that her spare car key was in her bag, which was inside the car. Therefore, we had to walk all the way to our house and charge my dad’s spare phone, which was out of battery. Everything was as if someone had planned it from the start. It was getting freaky.
When me, mum, and my brother went home, we were shocked that something like that could happen in such a short moment. This happened when my dad went out of the car because he was falling asleep.
After the phone was charged me and my mum had to go back to the place where my dad was. My brother didn’t come with us because he had his finals on Monday. We stepped outside and walked for about 100 meters when we saw dad coming down the hill. He said that he couldn’t wait anymore so he just walked home. Mum asked him why he stayed with the locked car, my dad replied by saying that he was worried that somebody will steal our family’s belongings.
All of us got back home and my dad called a car service to open the car. Although he was tired he had to go to the place again and bring the car back. He came back in about 20 minutes, with all our belongings. He said that he was amazed how easily the service people opened the car. Yesterday was a really exhausting day for all our family, especially my dad.
This event made me realized that a small moment can cause chaos like my mum’s car being locked with all my family’s belongings inside it.

The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye Essay

During the 1950’s, there were many great books that influenced students. Some of these books are nowadays commonly seen in schools´ book list and libraries. These books have shed some negative and positive lights to the students´ points of views. One of the most famous book that has fans and anti-fans is a book named “The Catcher in the Rye” written by J.D. Salinger. The novel tells the story of a boy speaking from a negative point of view during a three day period. It starts off with the main character, Holden, getting kicked out of school. He experiences several events during his three days and writes about the events that have impacted him, in a first-person account kind of way. It is also the first coming of age novel that shows the frustration of teenagers on the daily events that most people just ignore.

This book was recently banned in many districts of the US and other countries because of the use of profanity, lurid passages about sex, and statements defamatory to minorities, God, women and the physically disabled (Chasan, 1). Despite it being banned, numerous individuals wonder why “The Catcher in the Rye” is challenged and if it should really be banned. I believe that it should be banned and that for certain it is not a suitable book to be in the school shelves for the reasons that follow…

First of all, the book contains offensive languages and violence that are unacceptable for teenagers. Nowadays, students in school use a lot of inappropriate terms, that should not be encouraged  Reading a book with this kind of behavior being accepted or praised is a bad example that is to be followed, or at least remembered by students. Although students know these terms, they don’t apply them often. Also, during the periods of time at school, the students learn myriads of new subjects through the books they read. The rising action of this novel was made clearly when Mark Chapman approached John Lennon and shot him five times and killed him. Then, he pulled out his paperback copy of “The Catcher in the Rye” signed by John Lennon, and tried to read it (Chasan, 1). It is said that Mark Chapman pretended to be Holden and tried to live a life like him. Therefore, I don’t think that it is relevant for children to read it, although the children in our days are going though the similar social issues. As everyone can see Holden is a horrible example for today’s children.

Secondly, for the 2.1 billion people who are Christians in the World, “The Catcher in the Rye” is an extremely rude book. It has parts that have statements that are disrespectful to Jesus. Such as: “I can see the big phony bastard shifting into first gear and asking Jesus to send him a few more stiffs…” (Salinger, 17pg). Also, this book contains pages of humiliating statements toward Jesus. Even though I’m not a pious person, I believe that a book that includes disgraceful phrases shouldn’t be taught as a school’s novel for teenagers.

Countless people around the world believe that “The Catcher in the Rye” shouldn’t be banned because of it teaching life lessons to teenagers. Such as: Not judging people by just looking at them, bulling is bad and to work hard to succeed in life. However, I strongly believed that it should be banned because of its obscene languages that may induce violence and it’s rudeness towards specific religions and minorities.

Consequently, in my opinion “The Catcher in the Rye” should be officially black listed for several reasons. First, it contains vulgar languages that can impel students to turn violent. Additionally, it can make them learn the negative aspects of life before they are able to fully understand them, such as: suicide, prostitution, drunkenness and also in some occasions, getting beaten up. Thirdly, the book holds very disrespectful phrases about Jesus, ignoring his existence. Thus, since it is evident that the materials in this novel can mislead young people, I believe that it should be banned.

The life in the Holocaust, Book review for Thanks to My Mother

First, the author mentions details about her family, and relatives that weren’t with her anymore. I could experience her feeling by reading the poems and I could feel that these written arts are her ways to escape her painful incidents. When Susie Weksler was eight years old, Hitler’s forces invaded her city. In this memoir she explains how brutal life in the camps was and how hard it was to survive in the camps for many years. Also, she tells her how brave her mother was during the period when she was in the concentration camps. Her mother brought her food, helped her survive by creating travel passes that let her move safely, and by giving her a fake age. During the years in the camp, she grew taller even though she wasn’t eating well and she was very skinny.
In this memoir, which was mostly organized in chronological order with poems written in the ghetto, all the way to the camps and the hospital where she recovered; reflected the feelings and thoughts from the point of view of an uneducated child trying to forget and ease her fears. Also, she sang songs during the hours when the German guards weren’t around. In the camp, there were some doctors that came and checked the people to see if there were any old and sick people. After having a cursory look around the camps, they would choose them and take them to another place and kill them. This occurred every two weeks. When it was a Jewish festival day the German’s would give them bacon (pork) soup for food knowing that this was against their religion but everybody ate it because that was the only meal they could have. The author experienced several dreadful events such as: one of her relatives and other people in the camp were taken to a gas chamber and were killed very painfully. She said that she could hear them scream in her dreams. Also, during winter she and her mother had to undergo on the “Death March” which was a long and almost endless march to Stutthof; many people succumbed during their way there. During the March the people in the camps were stripped naked and were left outside in the square. Many people gave up and died few minutes later because of the cold, but Susie and her mother survived.
The line I loved was a sentence in which Susie described how her mother impelled her to not give up in any condition.
“She shook me with her strong hands; she hit me in the face with all her might and screamed, “Shut up! Stop crying! Jump; move; wave your hand; don’t breath with your mouth open!”
I especially liked this because I could see how people can act in extreme conditions like this situations. It might be interpreted as cruel and detached but she was being extreme under the pressing circumstances.
After the march, the survivors were taken to a camp and were fed very with only a hand full of food a day. In 1945 the survivors were rescued from the main camp by the Soviet Army and were taken to a safe place.
I thought that this book was quite touching because I could imagine easily with the descriptions given by the author, how tough it was for her and her mother to survive the Holocaust. In the memoir I found craft moves such as: Flash backs, Excessive description, Photos, Names, Dates, Giving hints of age and many other descriptions. However, I thought the most imminent craft moves were the Excessive Descriptions and the Flash Backs. She compared the meals she got at home with the ones at the camp (flash back). Also, she describes the Ghetto, her dad, and the beds that were in the concentration camps with a lot of details. She also has a difference in mood when she sees the light come in from the open lid of the truck, she feels that her freedom is close but when she gets out she was forced to work. These events made her realize how important her mother was and how people in extreme situations can behave completely differently from the way they usually do. For example: She gave her own food to make her strong and grow in a condition were it was hard to find food. She also put make up on her to trick the guards and Susie’s mother put her in a bag to carry her to a labor camp.
By just reading the title of the book “Thanks To My Mother”, you are aware of two things, first: her mother was extremely important and second her mother survived, since she is thanking her.
Overall, I loved how the author told the story, mainly about her mother taking care of her and I could draw in my mind the people getting shot when they were tricked with food. As well, the craft moves really made the whole story come together very well. I really enjoyed it and in the end it wasn’t so sad after all because Susie and her mother got to live a free life in Israel.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The book titled “The legend of Sleepy Hollow” takes place in a Dutch Colony in the eastern seaboard of America called Tarrytown, New York. The main character, Ichabod Crane is a poor school teacher who lived in a small house in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. On his way to house he had to go through a place called Sleepy Hollow. The climax of the story was when Ichabod Crane falls in love with a beautiful and wealthy girl named Katrina Van Tassel.

One night, Ichabod and many other people were invited to Katrina’s mansion for a party. Therefore, on his way Ichabod borrows a horse from a farmer and takes off to the party. In the party there were many delicious foods such as, donuts and pastries.

During the party he dances with Katrina while Bones sits in a corner despondently looking at his opponent with the woman he desires. Ichabod ends the dancing period and he socializes with others and peeps into conversations in regards to different subjects, but most about the horsemen and the times he had been seen. One of them was Brom Bones; the town’s bully with self center feelings and irascible manners towards those he did not like. He was Ichabod’s rival towards who in the end would marry Katrina. Bones boasted about his encounter with the headless horsemen making it an interminable discussion in regards to his abilities. They both abhorred each other for this reason. He talks about how he raced the headless horseman and nearly won but when he looked back the horseman flew off in a burst of flames. These conversations haunted Ichabod who was scared of demons and ghosts and impels him to believe that the headless horseman really exists. Ichabod’s affable manner gets the attention of Katrina, and he becomes a suitable subject in her eyes. This is noticed by Brom Bones.

After the party, Ichabod was on his way home when he had a feeling that something was amiss. As he keeps riding back home he felt a tremulous chill in his spine, when he turns around and sees the headless horseman. Ichabod, filled with horror, takes off in a hurry. Ichabod could hear the footsteps of the headless horseman’s horse hooves reverberate throughout the forest. As he was nearing the old church and graveyard, he feels something hit his head that made him fall off from his horse. He lost consciousness and remained on the grass. The next day, the farmer’s horse returned on its own but there was no sign of Ichabod. The villagers became profoundly worried and went to search for him but all they found was his hat and a smashed pumpkin.

In the end, Brom Bones gets married to Katrina and Ichabod was never seen again.

The Poems in Green Ink

The Poems in Green Ink

There are numerous kinds of important items that evoke one’s memories. The material item that brought back memories of my brother was his baseball glove.
My brother, Edward and I were going to a supermarket when we saw a small store that sold old discounted items. We were interested and went into the store. Edward stopped next to a box and kept staring at it. Then he turned around and told me that he wanted the baseball glove that looked very old.  He took my hand and directed me to a pile of boxes and books that were laying one on top of each other.  The baseball glove was inside a box with a pile of papers and old news paper clips.  He begged me to buy the glove for him but I rejected his request the first time because mum gave us money to buy milk and eggs to make dough and if we bought the glove we wouldn’t have enough money. The second time he asked me, I said “Let’s see how much it costs.” As I looked at the price tag, it was $5 dollars.  As I peeped deeper into the box, it looked like a time machine with items from long ago.  The glove was dark gunmetal gray, it had all the white stitches in place and they glowed as if they were new in contrast to the glove leather material.  Edward kept staring at it but he did not take it out, as if he expected me to confirm we could take the item home.  As I stared into my brother’s red hair I realized that I had extra money with me.  I took both my hands into my right pocked and pulled a gum wrap, 2 coins and 2 one dollar bills I had won from a school friend at a marble game earlier.
When Edward saw the money in my hand he placed both of his hands on to the box, but still did not touch it, and then I extended my hand and picked it out.  He started to jump and took it from my hand, ran straight into the cashier and asked for it.
The cashier was an old chubby white man that had been staring at us with a compassionate smile and perhaps if I had not taken out the money, he would have given it to my brother for free. There was no way we could have bought the glove but then the store owner told us we could buy it for 2 dollars. Therefore, we bought the glove and took off to the supermarket. The cashier tried to take the glove and place it in a plastic bag but I carried the bag empty all the way, as Edward played and tossed and punched the glove with his other fist.  It did not shine against the sun, but it looked as if it had been cleaned really well, it did not smell old or as if it had been in storage for too long, the inside lining that was completely new and the brand could be read clearly: WILSON.
After we bought everything my mum told us to buy, we went home. It was supper time, I called Edward down to eat but he didn’t answer. So, I went upstairs to see what he was doing. I opened the door and as I approached him I found my brother writing poems on back hand section of his glove. Soon, it was filled with green ink writings. I read silently two lines,
I shall gather myself into myself again;
I shall take my scattered selves and make them one.
I was confused what it meant and I asked my brother. He said that he will decide during the boring periods of his Baseball match. Edward didn’t even look up at me because he was too busy writing poems off his book. After getting ignored for 20 seconds I interrupted him.
“Anyway, Edward what are the poems for?” I asked.
He said he wrote the poems in order to look at them when he is bored in a baseball match. My brother is a great athlete, he is in the A team for baseball. I knew this because I went to his games quite often. I took my brother downstairs and had pizza and we got on the table and had a family talk. We were talking about how funny some of the teachers in our school are. Then suddenly, Edward started to laugh his heart out. Soon he fell off the chair like a frozen bird touching his tummy. It was a great conversation.
On Monday there were no classes because it was a holiday for the entire school, so our family went to play golf near out house but Edward didn’t play because he wasn’t in the mood. When it was time to tee up for the first tee, I could see Edward from about 150 yards because of his red hair. You know many people with red hair have bad temper but my brother was the nicest boy you could ever find in the world. Anyway, I had a good time playing golf with my family, it would have been better with my brother but still it I felt good because I won.
The next day, Edward and I went to school. That day every teacher came up to me and kept telling me how diligent my brother was. Edward was probably the cleverest kid I ever knew. He was 50 time more intelligent than I was, he always got an average of 100 percent and every day the teacher called my parents to tell them how everyone should follow Edward’s example and all kinds of positive things about him. This was how smart he was. I was a little bit annoyed but I loved my brother. These days kept repeating again and again until…
One day I was sleeping in the garage, and when I woke up the ambulance was carrying my brother to the hospital and my parents were crying. I asked them what had happened but they didn’t answer. I knew that something was wrong with my brother.  I went to the hospital with my parents and the doctor told us the Edward died of Leukemia.  I ran outside and headed to the places Edward and I used to go.
“Edward!” I yelled.
The scream echoed thought the town. There was no answer. Then I ran home and crushed all the windows in the garage.  I fainted because of the blood lose.
The next day I woke up in the hospital, my hand was covered with bandages and my parents were crying.  I asked them: were Edward was, they didn’t answer, just cried.
They stayed in the hospital room until the doctor finished checking my bandages and my hand.  Then he stepped outside the hospital room to talk to my parents.  I could hear my parents cry and cry through the rectangular window on the door of my room.  The doctor tried to comfort my mother but she just kept blowing her nose and my father kept his face down and his hands around my mother’s shoulders.
When they walked inside the room they explained to me how Edward had been sick for some time but they had kept hopes that he would get better so they did not tell me.  It had been about 3 or 4 months since Edward started to miss school and games.  Mum told me that Edward had been during the regular week days at exhausting practices in order to “live better” but my brother was so tired when he came back that he just went straight to bed.  Then I went to summer camp and did not see him for 3 months.  During those months it was odd to see he never wrote or called and when my parent visited he was always too busy or too tired to make the trip.
After a few days in the hospital, we went home.  I went up to Edward’s room and saw the glove I bought him on the way to the supermarket that day. There I stayed until the next day, when my mother got me to dress in black and white 3 piece vest to go to say goodbye to Edward.
At Edward’s funeral, there were not many relatives.  Since my parents had had a hard time contacting anyone to come.  Still it would have felt the same: empty and lonely.  My brother, what was left of him all had been reduce to a pound of ashes that fitted inside a small gold and silver box that my mom put inside a whole in the wall of the town church.  Outside, the sun was shining and it was a regular day, my mum told me to go home instead of school, but I choose to attend.  I did not wanted to be home without my brother there.  It felt weird enough to have all my relatives tell me how sorry they were and how now I had to be a good boy and take care of my parents when I grew up.
I spent the rest of the day in school, were most glanced at me because of my clothing, the vest and tie, than for being the brother of a dead boy.  Some rumors even said Edward died in an accident or that he had a contagious disease and that most likely I would die soon as well.  It was all unimportant to me.  I walked through the day and did not even hear much of what was said around me in class or the school bus back home.
At the end, I again went straight to my brother’s room and saw the glove lying in the bed where I had left it this morning. I approached the bed and then I collapsed in it.  I hugged the glove as hard as I could and cried.  I could remember every little detail about my brother.  I have kept that glove since then.

Letter to Mr. Jones

1621 June 12

Dear Mr. Jones

I am leaving on a journey across the ocean with one hundred and one of my crew members to find a new place to live in and for my religious freedom. I am traveling on a ship named the Mayflower. This will be the last letter I will send until I reach land.

Sincerely
Yu-Jin

1621 September 13

Dear Mr. Jones

How are you sir! I have finally reached land after my exhausting journey across the ocean. Sadly on our long journey one of my crew member’s child died. My crews and I had to write our names on a document called the Mayflower Compact. This document was about rules that we have to follow on the new land. After we got there, my one hundred crew members and I were electrified when we saw the endless forests. However, we were sick because of the long voyage and also because we didn’t have any food left. Therefore, we went inside the forest in order to find food. It was imperative to find food before night, so we hurried.
On our way we meet the native Indians that were naked! We were disgusted by their behavior and action, until we saw a little baby Indian who was smiling. Now because of the sunny disposition of the baby we were smiling despite our hunger. The Indians took us to their camp and gave us food and shelter. They were very friendly and told us that we could stay at their camp for a day. That night we went back to our ship by the help of some Indians, and stored the supplies that the Indians gave. After that we followed the Indians back to their camp and slept in their tents.
Next morning, my crew members and I went back to our ships and decided to build shelter with the supplies the Indians gave us because we didn’t know when a turbulent weather could come. We finished making it quickly because the generous Indians helped us. We were becoming very good friends with the Indians.
Mr. Jones, I wish you could be here. This place is great; the Indians are very nice and peaceful and everybody’s doing fantastic work except few who worked slowly and inaccurately. The guile towards all the other members of my group including the Indians was despicable. So we decided to make them work twice as much for their punishment. Please come and visit our new land.

Sincerely
Yu-Jin

1621 November 21

Dear Mr. Jones

Hello Mr. Jones. I have bad news to tell you. The weather here is getting very cold and my crews are dying! We are running out of food and the Indians don’t have the strength to help us anymore. We are in big trouble. Wish me luck sir.

Sincerely

An Up and Down

For the past 7days i had a hard time training for being a police. I had abrasions on my body. I grimaced every time i walked, i felt depressed. One day the head chief told me that I had to inspect someone in the village next morning. I slept really early today in order to wake up early. However, I woke up an hour late, i endeavored my self to wake up early but it just didn't work. I clad into my police uniform and brushed my teeth in a cursory manner. I was late on my mission, if the chief got there first i would be fired!! When i got there the chief was there but he was smiling. He told me that the mission was delayed. I was electrified to hear the news. But then the chief said that i had to go to a secret place to inspect the house and he told me that i couldn't take my car because it was "secret". He gave me an inventory of the thing i had to do. I was tired and i wanted to succumb.
On my way to the secret house i thought about quiting the job. Few minutes passed and i made a decision to quite the job after i completed this mission. My lips were dry from dehydration , so i stopped by a river and drank water. I felt much better. Suddenly, I saw a reflection of a house. It was big and old, as if nobody lived there. I was freaked out. I knocked gingerly on the front door. i simulated dead people coming out of the house. Then the the opened slowly and a nice guy came out and asked me what was wrong. I told him that i had to inspect his house.
Inside the house i could smell eggs roting somewhere in the house. He told me to go look at a crack under the ground. His heart beat was beating faster and faster and he did strange actions. When i saw the gruesome face of the old man under the crack, i was frozen and surprised because the smell wasn't coming from the roting eggs. I surmised the nice looking man of murdering the old man. I called my two team mates to come over and check it out. After my mates came over, we could corroborate that he killed the old man. After the incident, we derived great satisfaction from the applause following the murder catch. In the end i decided to keep my job as a police officer because my salary went up 100% after the mission was completed.

My First Time Making A Blog

Today i made a blog at home becasue the school decided to block the web. This is my first blog, so it is kind of awakward for me.
